Artist Statement
I am fascinated by the infinite complexity that exists in even the tiniest of nature’s structures. I become so engrossed by a given subject that I seek to understand it from a microscopic level through to its broader place within the natural world. By painting a few seemingly unrelated objects in meticulous detail, I emphasize their unique beauty, while a chaotic environment highlights their fragility. Incorporating human elements into my paintings allows me to express the interconnected energy that I see flowing through all living things.
My choice of mediums is directly related to the visceral impact I want my paintings to have. With acrylics I can capture the fluidity and unpredictability of my chaotic backgrounds, while oils are the only medium that enable me to render the subtle details of my photorealistic main subjects.
I have been drawing and painting since I could hold a pencil, but I received my formal training at Washington University in St. Louis, where I earned a B.F.A. in Painting. My artwork was featured in the publication “International Contemporary Masters” and displayed at the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Arts in Las Vegas. My paintings hang in private collections in the United States and Europe.
